About Us

Sisters in Deen Foundation stands tall as a testament to the power of compassion and collective action. From its humble beginnings to the ambitious establishment of Baytu Sakeenah Home, SIDF is dedicated to creating positive and lasting change in the lives of orphans and vulnerable children.

Sisters in Deen Foundation, a group of pragmatic Muslim women desiring to make a difference in the society, took a pragmatic step to establish the second Muslim Orphanage, Baytu Sakeenah Home, in Lagos after the existence of only one for over 3 decades. The Orphanage was launched and became operational on the 1st of October 2021.

The Orphanage was registered under Corporation Affairs Commission (CAC), Registered with the Lagos State Government Ministry of Youth and Social Development (MYSD), Registered with the Association of Orphanages and Homes Operators in Nigeria (ASOHON).

Baytu Sakeenah meaning “Home of Tranquility” serves as a one-stop transformation centre for orphans and vulnerable youth and also a beacon of hope and a nurturing ground for future leaders, innovators, and global change agents.

In essence, Baytu Sakeenah orphanage is a sanctuary where not just minds but whole individuals are being molded, preparing them for a future where they can stand tall, equipped with education, vocational skills, soft skills, morals, and a foundation in religious understanding

Our Story

Sisters in Deen Foundation is a non governmental organization that stemmed from the Truth Bearer Platform in the year 2016. It was established by a group of pragmatic Muslim women desiring to make a difference in the society. Their journey began with humble initiative of a Ramadan visitation program titled "A Day with the Orphans" at Bab-el-Salaam Home, the sole registered Muslim orphanage in Lagos State.

This inaugural effort blossomed into three-year commitment, during which the foundation provided engaging religious sessions and donated thoughtful gift items to the orphanage. As their connection with the home deepened, the Sisters in Deen Foundation sought to address the most pressing needs of the orphanage. Through diligent inquiry, they discovered a shortage of protein-rich food items essential for the children's balanced development.

However, the Sisters in Deen Foundation soon realized that Bab-el-Salaam Home could not accommodate all vulnerable children in the society. This poignant reality stirred the foundation to expand its scope and establish the second Muslim Orphanage Home in Lagos, after the existence of only one for over 3 decades.

Throughout its journey, the Sisters in Deen Foundation has remained steadfast in its commitment to the welfare of orphans and vulnerable children, driven by the unwavering belief that every child deserves a nurturing environment to thrive. As the foundation continues to grow and evolve, its legacy of compassion and dedication serves as a beacon of hope for those it serves.

About Baytu Sakeenah

Baytul Sakeenah Orphanage Home was born out of the need to provide a safe haven from vulnerable Muslim youth and orphanage. The decision to establish this orphanage was reached when we found out that Bab-el-Salaam (the only Muslim orphanage in Lagos) could not accommodate all the genuinely verified vulnerable children that were referred to it; owing to limited space and facilities.

The question which remains unanswered is: What is the fate of these vulnerable Muslim youths? We decided to establish another Muslim Orphanage Home to nurture the wellbeing of Muslim Orphans and the vulnerable children. The Foundation is duly registered with CAC. Alhamdulillah Robbil Aalameen, we have been able to acquire four plots of land in Epe for our permanent site; two of these plots were generously donated by one of our Sisters.

Considering the required cash outlay to get the orphanage off the ground and the urgency required to address the identified gap, another Sister within the group graciously offered us the use of her four-bedroom bungalow at the heart of Lagos specifically 16b harmony drive in Harmony Estate at Ogba to get the orphanage started while we build the permanent site in Epe in the nearest future. In shaa Allah, our plan is to formally launch Baytu Sakeenah Home in August, 2021. However, we still have a lot to do to ensure a smooth takeoff and running of the Home.

Our motivation was driven by the hadith of Our noble Prophet SAW the Prophet (saw) which says, “The one who cares for an orphan and myself will be together in Paradise like this, “and he (SAW) held his two fingers together to illustrate’. [Bukhari]
